After a month in the CEOs chair at Tasman District Council (TDC), Janine Dowding says she is enjoying her new role and has been warmly welcomed by everyone.
“I am enjoying working with the team. I have been fortunate to work with great people before coming to TDC so it has been a real pleasure to be so warmly welcomed and supported. TDC serves a diverse district and a number of communities across multiple services. I see huge commitment and that is a great starting point for me.”
The former Ministry of Social Development (MSD) regional commissioner of 15 years knew she would have to rise to the challenge and says the role is very demanding, but incredibly interesting.
“I expected the huge learning curve, understood the responsibilities, and knew that I would need to hit the ground running. But I did not appreciate enough how broad local government responsibilities are, and the depth and variation of technical knowledge and skills. I am used to managing a high workload, I am not used to starting from a low knowledge base on multiple topics in any one day. Fortunately, I am surrounded by a very experienced and knowledgeable Senior Management Team and capable staff.”
Janine is looking forward to expanding her overall knowledge and understanding of the district and being part of the future of Richmond.
“I think we have got the greatest region, so full of possibilities, and I am excited and fully committed to responsibly manage and lead Tasman District Council into the future.”
