With golf clubs in tow, 112 women from Whangaparaoa to Dunedin and everywhere in between, flocked to Richmond last week for the Greenacres Golf Club’s inaugural 3-day women’s golf tournament.
“It was very successful. Everyone was so impressed with the region and the pristine condition our golf course was presented in,” says tournament convenor Pam McLean.
After the idea for the tournament was first tabled at the club two years ago, a dedicated committee was established and since February 2017 they have worked tirelessly toward it.
Tournament sponsors Richmond Unlimited, Seifried Estate, NBS and Olive Estate Lifestyle were joined by an overwhelming number of local businesses in providing prizes for winners and raffles.
“We based the whole tournament on everything that’s great about living in the Nelson Tasman region, our raffle tables really reflected that,” says Pam.
The clubhouse was packed for the tournament’s finale dinner on Wednesday, October 17, and Pam says the jovial vibe reflected the positive feedback.
“Lots of the women were saying things like, there was only two of us this year, but we’ll be back next year with ten of us.”
Due to its success, the tournament looks set to become an annual fixture on women’s golfing calendars with next year’s dates already set, from 16-18 October.
“It’s been absolutely great, just wonderful.
“The girls on the organising committee have done an amazing job and so have all the volunteers,” says local competitor Lois Schwass.
