Richmond Aquatic Centre’s RPM Instructor Mel Walker will be giving it her all on April 14, as part of an 8 hour ‘Crankathon’ Challenge, raising money for the New Zealand Rescue Helicopter Trust. Originally from Southland, Mel has been part of their annual Westpac Chopper 250 km bike ride fund-raiser, from Queenstown to Invercargill (QT2INV).
She thought it was a cool idea and wanted to do something similar for our area. Since getting the go-ahead from organisers, Mel has been busy putting the wheels in motion for her event. She has already raised over $500 for the cause after hosting a quiz night and selling raffle tickets for a chainsaw. All of which will be added to Saturday’s total.
Richmond Aquatic Centre’s Fitness Manager Byron Hull says, “I think it’s just brilliant what Mel is doing. She has put in so much effort getting it all organised, and all for a great cause.”
