Waimea and Tasman swimmers have achieved well on the national stage at recent events.
Tasman Swim Club’s Maggie Goomes (14yrs) had a successful week at the Swimming New Zealand Division II competition in Rotorua winning gold in the 800m freestyle and silver in the 400m freestyle events.
Samantha Harman (13yrs) was awarded two silver medals for her efforts in the 200m backstroke and 200m fly events that enables her to attend the nationals after achieving her age group qualifying time. The national age group championships are being held at the Sir Owen G Glen National Aquatic Centre on the North Shore from April 17-21.
Competing at the 2018 New Zealand Junior Festival competition in Wellington Tasman Swim Club’s William Seymour (11yrs) won one gold, two silver and one bronze medal, and also broke three Swimming Nelson Marlborough (SNM) records in backstroke and freestyle.
The SNM record for 50m fly was also broken by Tasman Swim Club’s Samantha Wilson (11yrs) at the event.
Waimea swim team made up of Jarrod Limmer, Nathan Limmer, Maxime Jansens, Hollie McKay, Jade Hughes, Ariana Groot-Rua, Maia Hughes, Keita McKay, Lucy McKay and Amy Oliver scooped third place competing at the South Island Country and Town competition hosted by Invercargill.
