Two young ladies will be showing their support for breast cancer this month, by hosting a ‘Pink Brunch’ fund-raising event in Richmond.
Nicola Fleitas, a local photographer and social media manager, and Marina Kere, a business student, are organising a brunch event in an effort to raise money for breast cancer.
People attending the brunch in Richmond will join thousands throughout the country in the Breast Cancer Foundation’s largest fund-raising campaign.
Last year, $2.1million was raised through the campaign.
The monies raised help fund projects by some of the country’s top researchers, and supports patients and their families during a stressful time.
Nicola had the idea to organise the event in early April. “I saw it online, and I really like events like this, and I wanted to organise an event. We all know someone affected by cancer.” Nicola said.
“I thought it would be a good opportunity for local businesses to get involved and donate.” The response was a lot more than expected.
The pair were ‘overwhelmed’ with the response from local business, and Nicola says that the community is really getting behind the event.
“I started contacting different businesses when I first thought of organising it, and I was so excited by the number of people and businesses that offered donations and support.”
The event is being hosted at Club Waimea, who have donated the the venue and are catering for the brunch.
Tickets can be bought online for $25. Part of this go towards helping with costs while the rest will be a donation to the cause, On the day there will be several fund-raising opportunities, with spot prizes, raffles, and silent auctions. The event will include games, prizes for winners of games and a prize for Best Dressed in Pink.
The organisers want people to know that there will be ‘good food, good music and prizes,’ and that they will be donating to ‘a really great cause.’
Nicola says they’re welcoming any business that wants to come on board to support. “Its a great opportunity for people to get together for a great cause and connect with each other.”
