Richmond women are joining their counterparts of the Nelson Bays Harmony this weekend in Nelson to enjoy tutelage by one of the world’s best a cappella singing coaches.
Virginia Humphrey-Taylor is coming to do what she does best; pass on her passion for a capella, singing to women who really love to sing.
She will spend two full days encouraging and teaching the women of Nelson Bays Harmony in their craft of barbershop a cappella singing.
With friendship and support core values for the chorus group member, Trish Armstrong says, “there’ll be plenty of laughter along the way, as well as great vocal training”.
Virginia is a full time vocal coach and the musical director of the renowned 130-member Christchurch City Chorus. After winning the New Zealand national competitions they went on to represent New Zealand in Las Vegas in 2016, coming an impressive 5th in the world! Virginia is also the bass component of the quartet ‘L’Attitude which became New Zealand 2017 champions and with whom she travelled to Las Vegas again representing New Zealand in the quartet section of the international Sweet Adeline competitions.
Nelson Bays Harmony director Kathy Jamison says, “it’s a thrill to work with Virginia and see each member of our chorus growing into the best singer they can be and loving it”.
*Nelson Bays Harmony meet on Thursdays 7pm at Club Waimea. The next opportunity to sing with the chorus is an 8-week a cappella night class, beginning on August, 9. Visit www.nelsonharmony.org.nz for details.
